She became a disciple of Bankei-Zenji, high priest of the Ryumonji Temple in Harima Province (Hyogo Prefecture) and lived in a cottage close by the temple which she called Futetsuan Hermitage. Studied waka and haiku under Kigin Kitamura and Shoken Miyakawa.
Married a man named Tano when she was 20 years old. After his death, she became a nun and called herself Myoyu.
