Career
Suzuki Jimbe taught many chefs holding the rank of samurai who served the dai-myo. A master of the culinary art of the Shijo school, he served the Tokugawa Shogunate with Jihe Ishii, another famous chef.
His family held the position of Shogunate chief chef for generations. Cooked dishes to be served at receptions of the Imperial messengers to the Shogunate and Korean envoys and at marriage ceremonies or coming-of-age ceremonies of Shogun and Daimyo.
The majority of the cooks of Japanese dishes serving at the Imperial Court and in the first-class restaurants since the Meiji Era up to the present time received instructions either by him or his direct pupils.
