Jones, Sydney Twentyman was born on January 20, 1849. Son of late Thomas Jones, formerly of Stanmore, Rondebosch, and Sarah Elizabeth Head, daughter of John Holme TVentyman, of Dwerry House, Lancashire.

Career
Practised at Cape Town Bar, 1873-1882. Acted as Parliamentary Draftsman during absence of Mr. Advocate A. West. Cole; raised to Supreme Court Bench, 1882, and assigned as senior Puisne Judge to High Court, Kimberley.
Acted as Judge-President on various occasions in that Court.
Assigned to Court of Eastern Districts as Senior Puisne in 1887. Acted as Judge-President on several occasions.
Appointed Judge-President 1901. Resigned through ill-health, 1904.
Also as Legal Examiner to the University of the Cape of Good Hope. Bachelor of Arts (Cape), formerly second Puisne Judge of Supreme Court, Cape Colony, and Judge-President of Court of Eastern Districts.
