Sylva Fischerova was born on November 5, 1963, in Prague, Czechoslovakia (now Czech Republic). She is a daughter of Josef Ludvik Fischer, a philosophy professor, and Jarmila Dagmar Fischerova, a psychologist.
Sylva Fischerova attended Charles University.
Sylva Fischerova's early works were Zvlastni znameni (1985), Kliceni (1985), and Chvëni zâvodnich koni (1986). In 1990, her poetic work was included in Child of Europe: Anthology of East European Poets (1990). That same year Fischerovâ published Velkdzrcadla (title means "Large Mirrors"). Selections of her poems in English translation were published by Bloodaxe Books (The Tremor of Racehorses, 1990, The Swing in the Middle of Chaos, 2010). Stomach of the Soul, translated by the author with Stuart Friebert and A. J. Hauner, was published by Calypso Editions, United States, in 2014.
She also the author of V podsvëtnùn mëstë (1994) and Sance (1999). Her work represented in anthologies, including Interference, edited by P. Spafford (1992), Der Herrgott schuldet mir ein Mädchen (1994), Att leva: Dikter on frihet (1994), Pretrzenä nit (1996).
Fischerova is also contributor journals and periodicals, including Times Literary Supplement, Edinburgh Review, British Review of Poetry, Lullwater Review, Heat, Verse, Poésie, Prairie Schooner, New Orleans Review, and European journals.
