Sylvia Higginbotham attended Jones County Junior College, Louisiana State University—Shreveport, and Mississippi University for Women.
Sylvia Higginbotham began to work as an account executive for a newspaper production company in Shreveport in 1973. In 1977 she began working in the sales and creative department at KATC-TV 3, and in 1980 Sylvia worked in client development at KSLA-TV 12.
Higginbotham also worked as an account executive for advertising agencies, and as a member of the board of directors and executive director at Columbus Arts Council and executive director at Columbus Historic Foundation.
Sylvia was also the author of about a dozen Fodors Guide Books and author and producer of a play, Mississippi Music and Memories.
