Studied at Upper Canada College, and Toronto University Graduated in medicine as Starr gold medallist and 1st University silver medallist, 1870. Doctor of Medicine.
Appointed surgeon to His (or Her) Majesty’s British North American Boundary Commission, 1872, and served as such until the close of the work, being thanked by His (or Her) Majesty’s Government for the efficient way in which he had carried out the duties. Took up the study of mental diseases and became assistant physician of the London Asylum for Insane, 1875. Assistant superintendent of Hamilton Asylum, 1887.
Medical superintendent of the Protestant Hospital for the Insane, Montreal, since 1890.
Fellow of the Royal Society Canada, 1885, and President of the Geological and Biological Section, 1898. Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1886.
Lion, secretary for the Dominion of Canada of the Pan-American Medical Congress, Mexico, 1896. President American Medico-Psychological Association, 1904-1905.
