GILL, T. P. was born on October 25, 185 in Ballygraigue, Nenagh, company Tipperary. Son of Robert Gill, Commander of Order of Leopold, and nephew of Peter E. Gill, who contested the county as a tenant Tighter, 1868.

Studied at Trinity College, Dublin.
Became a journalist and publicist. Went to America in 1883, where he became editor of the Catholic World magazine, and an associate editor of the North American Review. Elected to Parliament for South Louth as a member of the Irish Parliamentary Party at the General Election of 1885.
Remained in Parliament, actively sharing in the work of his party until the Parnell split, 1890, when, after taking part in an attempt to reunite party, withdrew from political life.
Became a member of Recess Committee which was promoted by Mr. Horace Plunkett, 1895, acted as its honorary secretary and drew up its report on the Establishment of a Department of Agriculture and Industries for Ireland.
When a measure was carried through Parliament giving effect to the recommendations of the Recess Committee, he was invited to become secretary of the new Department. Member of the Intermediate Education Board for Ireland.
