After school joined Mitsui Bussan Kaisha (Mitsui & Co.) and successively served as manager of Dairen branch office and as chief London branch office.
In 1933, became business manager of the head office. Played an important part in financial circles as head of the Mitsui financial empire.
During World War II, served as an economic envoy.
In 1944, resigned Mitsui Bussan. In 1945, became chief director of Board of Trade.
Purged in 1946; deported and became Finance Minister in 1952.
Currently director of Nihon Ka^aku (Japan Chemical) Company.
