Tadao Yamanaka graduated from Russian Language Department of Tokyo Foreign Language School (1913).
Tadao Yamanaka served at Passenger Section of Railway Bureau and thereafter transferred to New Japan Tourist Bureau, predecessor of the present Japan Travel Bureau (1921.) and served as chief of its Research and Publicity Department. Appointed shokutaku (professional associate) of South Manchuria Railway. Appointed auditor of Japan Travel Bureau (1943) and curator of Kotsu Hakubutsu-kan (Museum of Transportation) of Japan Travel Bureau (since 1941). Held additional post of director of Nihon Hakubutsu-kan Kyokai (Japan Museum Association).
