Tachibana Tadashige was born in 1612. He was adopted by Tachibana Muneshige.
Tachibana succeeded his father as daimyo in 1637. When the Shimabara Civil War broke out in the same year, he and his father suppressed the rebels. Tadashige retired in 1664 and called himself Kosetsu. Tadashige and his wife were waka poets. Many of their descendants were also waka poets.
His wife was foster daughter of Hidetada, second Shogun of the Tokugawa Dynasty, who was a granddaughter of Masamune Date, Lord of Sendai.
