Tatehata Taimu was born in 1880 in Wakayama, Japan.
Tatehata started his study at Kyoto Municipal School of Arts and Crafts and went on to the department of sculpture in Tokyo School of Fine Arts.
In 1908, while still in school, Tatehata was first accepted for the second Bunten (exhibition sponsored by the Ministry of Education) and made the sensational debut, his work purchased by the Ministry. Later he served as a judge for Teiten (Japan Art Academy Exhibition), and also taught at his old school.
