Takamura-no-Ono composed waka and Chinese poems and was reputed as the best poet of the time. He did not go to China because of bis indignation at the tyrannical ways of Tsunetsugu Fujiwara, chief envoy to China. He was punished with exile to Oki Island for that dereliction. Was later pardoned and rose to the rank of Court Councilor.
