Saito received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 and a Master of Science degree in 1977 from Tokyo Institute of Technology. In 1982, he was given a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Chiba University.
Saito began his career as a postdoctoral fellow at Cologne University in 1982. Three years later he took a position of a visiting associate at National Institutes of Health.
In 1988, Takashi took a position of an assistant professor at Chiba University. Also he worked as a professor at the same university from 1989 to 2004. Since 2004 Saito has been a group director at Laboratory for Cell Signaling of RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences.
On October 5, 1977 Takashi Saito married Ryoko Sakaguchi. They have 2 children.
