Career
Takatomo Kariya was a retainer of the Kaga Clan of Ishikawa Prefecture. He studied the Japanese classics under Miyuki Tanaka, to eventually become teacher of the classics at Meirindo (Kaga clan school) (1852). When Lord Maeda ordered the compiling of a classified history of Japan he helped his former master in this task, and brought out 25 volumes on the subject.
