Takenori Kasuya was born in Harima, Hyogo Prefecture, with original family name of Shimura and given name Sukezaemon, who was orphaned at an early age and brought up by Tomomasa Kasuya.

Takenori Kasuya joined the services of Hide- yoshi Toyotomi (1578) and distinguished himself as a great warrior during the Shizugatake Battle (1583) for which he was rewarded with a plot of land capable of producing 5000 koku of rice. He again distinguished nimself when he helped Yukinaga Konishi capture Seoul, Korea (1592). He however, was stripped of his land when defeated at the Battle of Seki-gahara (1600).
