Kaneko’s lather, Kaneko Naokichi (1868-1944), was a pioneer in the formation of the style ot Japanese business known as ‘Shosha’. He was one of the earliest ‘Protestant-like’ capitalists m Japan, and this background influenced Takezo s outlook. Kaneko himself was not only a commentator on Hegel but also translated him in10 Japanese, the Seishin Genshogaku (1932-1952) being regarded as outstanding.
The study of Hegel m Japan has been significantly promoted an enhanced by this work. Kaneko was also a student of Heidegger and Jaspers, and founded the Jitsuzongshugi Kyokai, an Association for the Study of Existentialism in Japan.
