In 2014, Bateman played a significant role of Kayla in the science fiction horror film The Hive along with Gabriel Basso, Kathryn Prescott, and Jacob Zachar. The film is directed by David Yarovesky and had a premiered at Fantastic Fest on September 19, 2014. In 2015, Bateman played the recurring role of Scarlett Kincaid in the 4th season of The CW"s comedy-drama series Hart of Dixie.
Bateman also played one of the lead roles, Teacup, in the science fiction film The 5th Wave, along with Chloë Grace Moretz and Nick Robinson.
