She studied at the Voronezh Institute of Technology (1974-1976). She graduated from the acting department of the All-Russian State Institute of Cinematography (1981, studio of Sergei Fyodorovich Bondarchuk and Irina Konstantinovna Skobtseva).
Akulova’s debut was in 1977 in the film With Faith and Truth (directed by Andrei Sergeyevich Smirnov). The actress of the Gorky film studio has appeared in more than 25 films, including The Hat, The Ballad of Valiant Knight Ivanhoe, Three on the Highway, Sunday Dad, In Search of Captain Grant, From Potapov's Life, The Right People, and others.
