Career
After finishing at Peers School, entered the service of the Imperial Household. Later accompanied the then Crown Prince on his tour of Europe as a steward. Returning home was appointed junior chamberlain and then steward to the dowager Empress Director of Poetry Bureau of Imperial Household and compiled the poems of Emperor and Empress Meiji. Member of House of Peers (1897) and created Viscount. Was a waka poet belonging to the Nijo school.
