Left Waseda University without graduating (1914) to study art in America and then in Mexico.
After graduating at Mexico was appointed professor and then president of Mexico Open Air Art Academy (since 1925). Returning home joined the Nika-Kai Committee (1937). His style, influenced by modern Mexican painters, is considered unique in Japan.
