Tammy Jih was born and raised in Los Gatos, California. Before emigrating to the United States, her father received a Bachelor of Surgery in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 1968.

In 1975, he received his Doctor of Philosophy in Aerospace Engineering from University of California Berkeley.
Career
Her parents had migrated from Taipei, Taiwan to settle in the United States in the 1970s. Her parents have since returned to their home country, Taiwan in 1997. Jih grew up in a Mandarin-speaking family with two brothers who are nine and six years older than her.
Her second brother is a family doctor currently based in Loma Linda.
Jih attended Los Gatos High School and graduated in 1999. She received a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Stanford University in 2003, and in 2006, earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
She worked as a business litigator at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, Limited Liability Partnership from 2006 to 2010. Now, she has taken on a new position as general litigation counsel at Google in Mountain View, California.

They have appeared as guests on many television talk shows including The Bonnie Hunt Show and Live with Regis and Kelly.
