Career
He was voted by the Hedge Fund Journal as the emerging top 40 absolute return investors globally and also named as Best Asia Cr Hedge Fund by The Asset. Prior to joining Apollo, Mr. Tan was a Managing Director at Amaranth Advisors Limited Liability Company, an American multi-strategy hedge fund.
From 1999 to 2001, Mr.
Tan ran the proprietary cr portfolio for Development Bank of Singapore. Mr. Tan began his career in 1995 at the treasury division of Keppel Corporation, where he traded proprietary Asian equities and fixed-income until 1999.
Mr Tan is a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and a World Cities Summit Young Leader 2014. In 2015, the Nanyang Technological University, Mr Tan"s alma mater, appointed him to its Board of Trustees concurrent to his appointment to the Monetary Authority of Singapore"s Finance Centre Advisory Panel.
He is also an Adjunct Professor at a number of universities in Singapore and China.
Despite his humble beginnings, Mr. Tan graduated with an undergraduate Accountancy degree ("95) from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. He holds an Master of Business Administration ("03) from Yale University and completed a postgraduate course at Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2011.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and is both an Australianand Singapore-registered Certified Public Accountant (Certified Public Accountants).
Mr. Tan is the co-author of Asian Financial Statement Analysis: Detecting Financial Irregularities, published in April 2014. In 2015, the Mandarin version of the book was launched in Shanghai, China, which sold out upon release.
