Taneyoshi was a son of Yoshizumi, and belonging to a powerful family of Miura, Sagami Province (Kanagawa Prefecture).

Was a high ranking police official in the Kamakura Shogunate. He became aware of the existence of an affair between his wife, a beautiful woman, and Shogun Yori- ie. This resulted in the birth of a child, unwanted by the Shogun and which Foshi- Toki Hojo took upon himself to have killed. To revenge this deed Taneyoshi proceeded to Kyoto where he plotted with the Former Emperor Gotoba to assassinate Yoshitoki Hojo. He killed Mitsusue Iga, governor of Kyoto, but was defeated by the forces of the Shogun and killed himself at Toji Temple in Kyoto.
