Tanga Kikuchi was born in 1789.

Career

Set himself up as a cotton merchant under the name Sanoya-Choshiro at Edo and within a few years made a fortune.

Achievements

• Though thrifty by nature, Tanga Kikuchi was generous where others were concerned. He contributed thousands for the relief of the famine-stricken during the Tempo Era (1830-1843) and contributed large sums to help villagers improve their lands.
