Career
He was awarded the Akutagawa Prize in 1967 for his novel The Cocktail Party (Kakutera Pati, 1967). Oshiro has also been an innovator of the traditional Ryukyu kumiodori. Two of his plays are Umino Tenzakai ("Celestial-sea Horizon") and Hingire, Niibichi ("Escape, Marriage").
