Background
Lahane was born in a small village named Makegaon in Latur district of Maharashtra state in farmer"s family on 12 February 1957 to father Pudlikrao and mother Anjanabai.

He was awarded award in 2008 by President of India which is 4th highest civilian award of India. He is one of 7 children of the couple. At young age his both Kidneys were not functioning, his mother donated him one of her Kidney.
Before took over as Dean of J J Hospital he was Head of the department of Ophthalmology.
As a ophthalmologist he arranged many Cataract camps nationwide and also in JJ Hospital. In 2007 he did his 100,000th Cataract surgery in JJ Hospital which was attended by then Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vilasrao Deshmukh.
He is credited for modernizing Ophthalmology department of JJ Hospital. He became Dean of JJ Hospital in 2010.
As a dean he is credited for modernizing Out Patient Department of JJ Hospital along with computerizing the system.
Lahane has been awarded with numerous awards. Padma Shri award: India"s 4th highest civilian award, presented by President of India. Marathwada Gaurav Award: Awarded by Lokmat media group.
