Ted Arnott

Background

Arnott was born in 1963 in Fergus, Ontario.

Career

He has served as an Master in Public Policy since 1990. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wilfrid Laurier University in 1985 and a diploma in business administration from the same institution in 1986. They have three sons.

He and his family reside in Fergus.

Arnott succeeded popular Master in Public Policy Jack Johnson when he was elected to the legislature with 39.6% of the vote in the election of 1990, defeating New Democrat Dale Hamilton by about 1,300 votes. He was re-elected with a majority in the 1995 election, in which the Progressive Conservatives formed a majority government.

During the 1995 campaign, Arnott was the only Progressive Conservative candidate who refused to sign a pledge sponsored by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. During that campaign, he had refused to make any promises, other than his best efforts if re-elected.

He was re-elected with a large majority in the election of 1999, and was returned again in 2003, 2007 2011, and 2014.

Achievements

• The Conservatives won the election and he served as a backbench supporter of the Mike Harris government.

Politics

Arnott is the party"s Critic for Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure and is the First Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Whole House of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.

Membership

He is a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario representing the riding of Wellington—Halton Hills.
