Assistant scientist, Woods Hole (Massachusetts) Oceanographic Institute, 1967-1969; associate professor geological science, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, 1969-1975; professor geological science, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, since 1975. Author (with others) books. Contributor articles to professional journals.
