Tenno Kameyama was born in 1249. He was the son of Emperor Gosaga.
Tenno Kameyama ascended the throne (1259) and retired (1274) after ruling wisely. When the Mongols invaded Japan (Koan-no-eki) (1281) he sacrificed himself at the Ise Shrine as an offering for divine aid against the invaders.
