Early involvement in revolutionary activity. After the October Revolution 1917, an active Cheka official. Conducted mass executions of ‘class enemies’ (officers, clergy, merchants) in Siberia (Pavlodar, Troitzk).
Moved to Moscow, head of the secret operations department of the ChekaGPU, later, 1928-1938, local leader of the OGPU-NKVD in the Soviet Far East. Denounced by a colleague (who later defected to Japan). Arrested and shot.

The emphasis on peaceful coexistence doesn’t mean that the Soviet Union accepted a static world with clear lines. Socialism is inevitable and the "correlations of forces" were moving towards socialism.
