Since 2001, Cheatham-Stricklin has worked as a vocal instructor at Jacksonville State University. She is now married.
Entering the statewide pageant as Mission Point Mallard, Cheatham-Stricklin won the title of in 1978. She finished first runner-up at Mission America 1979 on September 9, 1978. She won the talent competition and the swimsuit competition in the Mission America Pageant. Following her reign as, she toured England, Iceland, and Germany performing as part of the Mission America United Service Organizations tour along with several other contestants in the pageant.
