In 1947 Ban Tetsugyu Soin became Tanto, or Head of Practice, of Hosshin-ji Monastery. Carlo Zendo Tetsugen Serra later trained at Tosho-ji and then returned to Italy, where he founded the center of Enso-ji in Milan and the monastery of Sanbo-ji, near Parma.
