Background

Dod, Thaddeus was born on March 18, 1741 in Newark, New Jersey, United States. Son of Stephen and Deborah (Brown) Dod.

Education

Graduated from College of New Jersey (now Princeton), 1773.

Career

Minister, 1775, ordained to ministry Presbytery of New York, 1777. Preached on Western frontier. Founded church, Ten Mile, Pennsylvania, 1779, began to teach school, 1782.

Received charter to organize Washington Academy, 1789, principal, 1789-1790, also organized school, Canonsburg, Pennsylvania (two schools later became Jefferson College and Washington College, later merged into Washington and Jefferson College).
