Lynch was born in Arigna, County Roscommon in 1882.
As an adult he moved to Belfast to find employment and started work as a publican. Being a shrewd business man over time he succeeded in buying his own public house and eventually ended up owning three bars in Belfast, the Monaco, the Carlisle Circus and one other. He was considered part of the Catholic new money minority in Northern Ireland.
He was a senator in the Senate of Northern Ireland from 1941 to 1949.
