MIFSUD BONNICI, The Hon. Karmenu was born on July 17, 1933 in Cospicua. Parents: the late Doctor Lorenzo Mifsud Bonnici and the late Catherine Mifsud Bonnici (née Buttigieg).

Education

Lyceum; University of Malta, Bachelor of Arts, Doctor of Laws, 1954. University College, London University Taxation and Industrial Law 1967-1968.

Career

Deputy Leader, Malta Labour Party 1980. Designate Leader, 1982. Co-opted to Parliament, 1982.

Minister of Labour and Social Services, 1982-1983. Senior Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, 1983-1984. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, 1984-1987.

Leader of the Opposition, since 1987. Member of Parliament, since 1987. Lecturer in Industrial and Fiscal Laws, University of Malta, 1969.

Legal Advisor, General Workers’ Union, 1969. Editorial Board, Il-Haddiem (Young Christian Workers’ Movement).
