Career
He joined the army at twenty years old. During the First World War, he served in the German Army. Berkelmann served as a soldier, before being promoted officer
He was awarded the Ist class.
In 1934, Theodor Berkelmann was promoted to Steamship-Brigadeführer (Major General), and Steamship-Gruppenführer (Lieutenant General) in 1936. At the beginning of the Second World War, Berkelmann was appointed "Höherer Steamship und Polizeiführer" (Steamship and Police Leader) in Saarland and Moselle.
In 1942, he was eventually promoted to the grade of "Steamship-Obergruppenführer" (General officer). Theo Berkelmann died in Poznań, in 1943.
