He moved to Fond du Lac, Wisconsin in 1841. An Episcopalian, Conkey married Cynthia F. Foote in June 1848. They would have four children.

He was a Democrat.

Achievements

• During the American Civil War, Conkey served with the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment of the Union Army, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Membership

Conkey was a member of the Senate from 1851 to 1852 and of the Assembly in 1857.
