COOKE, Theodore was born in 1836 in 1836, Tramore, Company Waterford. Son of late Reverend John Cooke, Master of Arts, Rector of Ardfinan, Company Tipperary, Ireland.

Studied at Dublin University. Hebrew prizeman; first Honoursman and Senior Moderator and Gold Medallist in Experimental and Natural Sciences, 1859. Special certificates in Mechanics and Experimental Physics, Chemistry, Mineralogy, Mining, and Geology from the Engineering School of the University.
Sent to India as engineer by B. and C. I. R. Company 1860. Erected Bassein Iron Bridge, 4312 feet lougitude. In 1865 was appointed Principal of Government Civil Engineering College at Poona (afterwards the College of Science), acted thrice as Director of Public Instruction to Government of Bombay.
Master of Arts; Doctor of Laws.
Was Director of Botanical Survey of Western India. Acted as Director of Agriculture to Government of Bombay. Was Fellow of Bombay University.
Dean of Faculty and Syndic. Retired, 1893; was subsequently for three years Technical Sub-Director, Imperial Institute, London. , M.A.I., M.Inst.C.E.I.; retired from Civil Service of Indian Government (Bombay).
