His last appointment was as Air Secretary. McEvoy joined the Royal Air Force as a cadet in 1923. He became Officer Commanding Number.
1 Squadron in 1935 and served in World World War II as Station Commander at Royal Air Force Northolt before moving on to be Group Captain - Operations at Headquarters Royal Air Force Fighter Command in December 1941 and then became Senior Air Staff Officer first at Number.
11 Group, then at Desert Air Force and then at Number. 84 Group. In 1945 he was appointed Director of Staff Duties at the Air Ministry.
After the War he was appointed Air Officer Commanding Number. 61 Group and then from 1950 he was Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Training) at the Air Ministry.
In retirement he became Chairman of the The Society for Italic Handwriting.
