Editor Mandan (North Dakota) Daily Pioneer, 1882. Compiled Long’s Legislative Hand Book for Dakota, 1883. Began practice of law 1884.

State's attorney for district west of the Missouri River, Dakota

Territory, 1885; attorney North.P. Railroad, Bismarck, Dakota Territory, 1887; settled in Chicago, 1894.

Legal adviser in formation of Illinois Life Insurance Company, 1899, and general counsel same, 1899-1907. Assisted in organizing Western Trust & Savings Bank.

Retired from active practice, 1908. Founded, 1914, and since president Carson Long Institute (boys Military school, preparatory and vocational instruction), New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania Alderman 6th Ward, Chicago, 1909-1915.
