He received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1962, and his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Minnesota in 1966. He developed the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) a widely used standardized measure in child psychology for evaluating maladaptive behavioral and emotional problems in preschool subjects aged 2 to 3 or in subjects between the ages of 4 and 18. He is also responsible for the Achenbach System of Empirically Based Assessment (ASEBA).
