(From the Introduction by Sinclair B. Ferguson '"Mystery"...)
From the Introduction by Sinclair B. Ferguson '"Mystery" is a biblical word that over the years has been reduced in meaning. Taking on an atmosphere very different to the sense in which it was used for example by the apostle Paul. It is important therefore in opening these pages to realize that in discussing Christianity's mysteries Crawford is dealing with realities that can be known by us only if God himself reveals them. They come to us recorded in the pages of Scripture, not as a result of our own abilities to engage in reasoning. Thus The Mysteries of Christianity is in essence an exposition and defence of Christianity as a supernatural, Trinitarian faith at the heart of which lie the mysteries of the incarnation, the atonement, the sovereign work of the Holy Spirit, and the marvels of divine providence.'

(Excerpt from The Doctrine of Holy Scripture: Respecting t...)
Excerpt from The Doctrine of Holy Scripture: Respecting the Atonement The Atonement is a pure matter of revelation. Whether as regards the truths which it embodies, the principles on which it rests, or the ends to which it is conducive, we have no reliable means of in formation beyond what God has been pleased to give us in His word. In approaching such a subject our question ought ever to be, "What is written in the Scriptures? How readest thou?" Nor can we be too careful lest we advance any position but such as, on full and fair inquiry, has been found to be either expressly set down in the Holy Scriptures, or by good and necessary consequence deducible from them. Accordingly, I have chosen the inductive in preference to the ordinary dogmatic method of dis cussing this important subject, believing the former method to be not only the more satisfactory to an intelligent inquirer, but at the same time the more consistent with that reverence which is due to the oracles of God. (Excerpt from The Fatherhood of God: Considered in Its Gen...)
Excerpt from The Fatherhood of God: Considered in Its General and Special Aspects and Particularly in Relation to the Atonement, With a Review of Recent Speculations on the Subject, and a Reply to the Structures of Dr. Candlish The following Lectures were originally prepared as part of a course of instruction in Systematic Theology, during the past Session in the University of Edin burgh: and they are now published, with some additions and amendments, in the hope that they may con tribute to the exposition of a subject of deep interest, not only to theological students, but to all Christians. My aim has been to illustrate the Divine Father hood, at once in its general reference to all mankind, and in its special reference to those who are the "chil dren of God by faith in Christ Jesus;" to show that these several aspects of the doctrine may, on reasonable and scriptural grounds, be sufficiently vindicated and established; to explain wherein they differ, and how they may be harmonised; and to point out the relation which they bear to some other highly important articles of the Christian system - above all, to the fundamental doctrine of the Atonement. I dare not flatter myself that this object has been fully accomplished. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
