2012 Dayley challenged Republican Representative Clifford Bayer for the District 21 A seat, Bayer switched to run for the open senate seat. Dayley won the four-way May 15, 2012 Republican Primary with 1,052 votes (343%) and won the November 6, 2012 General election with 12,858 votes (648%) against Democratic nominee Karla Miller.
