Career

A batsman of unknown handedness, Deakin played for Sheffield Cricket Club in 1834, the embryonic form of the later Yorkshire county cricket team In 1833 he also played for a Yorkshire XI against a Norfolk XI in Sheffield, a match now regarded as the one of the inaugural matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club. Deakin made four first-class appearances for Yorkshire in his career, scoring 45 runs for them, and a fifth match for the aforementioned Sheffield Cricket Club.
