This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. HOLMES, Thomas was born in 1846 in Walsall. Son of William Holmes, ironmoulder.
Studied at National School, Rugeley. For many years an ironworker. Owing to an accident and subsequent illness, had to give up his trade.
Taught night school, etc., for some years. In 1885 appointed Police Court Missionary at Lambeth Police Court. In 1889 transferred to North London Court.
Lecturer on criminology and social subjects. Secretary of Howard Association. Associate Society for Study of Inebriates.
Has established Home of Rest for women engaged in the Home Industries. The Home Workers’ Aid Association, of which he is Honourable Organiser, 1903. And intends to devote the remainder of his life to the housing of London's poorest toilers, and hopes to improve the conditions under which home workers live and labour. Late Police Court Missionary, North London Police Court.
