With his sphere of official duty relating chiefly to Sutherland, of which county he has been Convener, and is a Commissioner of Supply and Justice of the Peace, he is also on the Commission of the Peace for Ross and Cromarty, is a Governor of the Tain Royal Academy, a Fellow of the Society of Scottish Antiquaries, and a Member of the British Numismatic Society.
