After entering his father's office as a student he remained to later become, together with his brother Frederick, an associate of the elder architect between 1880 and 1890 under the name of A. B. Mullett & Company.
Thomas Mullett (known to his friends as “Tommy”) had an active professional career, conducting practice with offices in the Union Trust Building in Washington until the time of his death. He was awarded many important commissions, designed public buildings & business offices in Washington and other cities, served as Consulting or Supervising Architect on several projects, and in addition became a recognized authority on Building Regulations for the District of Columbia.
Among the noted examples of his executed work in Washington was the Capitol Park Hotel, Hotel Harris, Farmers & Merchants Bank Building, Annex to the Union Trust Building, the latter in association with Walter G. Peter, and many homes for prominent citizens in Washington and its environs. Mr. Mullett also designed buildings in various southern cities, ineluding the Jefferson County Jail at Charlestown, West Virginia, and the Visitation Monastery, Alta Vista, Maryland.
After 1920, when elected to the Washington, D. C. Chapter of the A. I. A., he maintained that affiliation the rest of his life, also for many years served ably as the Chapter’s Treasurer.
