He served in the Dominican Republic (1967), Brazil (1973-1975), and Hungary (1977-1979). His novel Edge of Allegiance is considered "insider" spy fiction. The novel is the fictional postmortem of a failed Cold-War HUMINT operation that the author calls the Bagatelle case.
The cut line for the novel is "a twisting slide down the espionage rabbit-hole with a plot as intricately wired as a Cold War missile." The locale and characters of the novel reflect the author"s assignments in Brazil and Hungary.
