Nicholson, Thomas was born on January 27, 1862 in Woodburn, Ontario, Canada. Son of James and Hannah (Burkholder) Nicholson.

Career

Taught in various public and high schools, 1878-1883. Entered Mechanical Engineering ministry, 1884. On various charges in Michigan, 1884-1889, at Big Rapids, Michigan, 1893-1894.

Professor philosophy and Biblical literature, and principal academic of Cornell College, 1894-1903. President and professor philosophy, Dak. Wesleyan University, 1903-1908.

General correspondent secretary Board of Education, Methodist Episcopal Church, 1908-1916. Elected bishop Methodist Episcopal Church, May 1916. Resident bishop in Chicago, 1916-1924.

Resident bishop, Detroit, 1924-1932. President of Anti-Saloon League of America, 1921-1932. Lecturer on the English Bible in many states.

Chairman Executive Committee Iowa State Teachers’ Association, 1899. President South Dakot State Teachers’ Association, 1908. Chairman State Conference Charities and Corrections, also of committee which named list of accredited high schools public State High School Manual, which he edited.

Founder and first president Council of Church Bds. of Education. One of organizers Association of America Colls.
