President and professor philosophy, Dakota Wesleyan University, 1903-1908.

General correspondent secretary Board of Education, Methodist Episcopal Church, 1908-1916. Elected bishop Methodist Episcopal Church, May 1916.

Resident bishop in Chicago, 1916-1924.

Resident bishop, Detroit, 1924-1932. President of Anti-Saloon League of America, 1921-1932. Lecturer on the English Bible in many states.
