Career
Sutherland (c since 1817) was an early settler and attorney in San Diego, California. From March 1850 to 1850 Sutherland was the last Acting Alcalde (Mayor) of San Diego. Sutherland was the city district attorney under the United States Government, and District Attorney in 1851.
He moved to San Francisco, California in 1852.
He died on 2 February 1859 in Sacramento, California. He"s buried at Lone Mountain Cemetery in San Francisco.
